Mount of Beatitudes

The Mount of Beatitudes is located on the northwest side of the Kinneret, or Sea of Galilee. It is one of the prettiest sites we see along our journey through the Land of Israel. As you can see on the map below, there are a couple significant sites in close proximity, Bethsaida and Caperanaum. Caperanaum is where Yeshua made his home, not even 2 miles from the Mt. of Beatitudes. Directly below is where Yeshua taught the Parable of the Sower found in Mark 4:1-9, which he did from a moored boat on the bay.

Currently this site is owned and ran by the Catholic church. There are rose gardens and a church where people can go in to view and pray. There are also various locations throughout the gardens where people can pray and gather for teachings by guides and tour leaders and clergy. This specific site is more than likely not the actual site where Yeshua taught his sermon as this site is directly ontop of the mount versus on the side of the mount. It is more likely that Yeshua would have been located more towards the bottom or midway up the mount and speaking upward to the crowd so that His voice would carry and reach the majority who came to hear him.

The sermon to which I refer is located in the book of Matthew or Matityahu 5:1-7:28.

Seeing the crowds, Yeshua walked up the hill. After he sat down, his talmidim came to him, and he began to speak. This is what he taught them:
“How blessed are the poor in spirit!
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
“How blessed are those who mourn!
for they will be comforted.
“How blessed are the meek!
for they will inherit the Land!
“How blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness!
for they will be filled.
“How blessed are those who show mercy!
for they will be shown mercy.
“How blessed are the pure in heart!
for they will see God.
“How blessed are those who make peace!
for they will be called sons of God.
“How blessed are those who are persecuted
because they pursue righteousness!
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
“How blessed you are when people insult you and persecute you and tell all kinds of vicious lies about you because you follow me! Rejoice, be glad, because your reward in heaven is great—they persecuted the prophets before you in the same way.

There is so much to see and experience…I am not sure of the actual location nor the atmosphere of the time when Yeshua spoke these words, but what I do know is that when I am there (and I have been to both the Catholic site and a remote location along the side of the Mount), I feel the presense of the Almighty very real and very strong. He is not dead, He does not slumber nor does He sleep. The same G-d that was there over 2,000 years ago is still seated on His throne and I want you to experience this, as well.

Many blessings to you! Baruch HaShem!
